Whats in Tenerife
Tenerife offers something for everyone. Being a volcanic island, one of the most famous attractions in Tenerife is Mount Teide. At a height of 3,718 metres, it and the surrounding area of Las Cañadas was declared a national park in 1954 and in 1998 it received 3,500,000 visitors amaking it the most popular national park in Spain.
Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz is the capital of Tenerife, located in the north of the island it supports around 30% of the islands population. The town's most important feature is its port which is one of the biggest in Spain. There are many tourist attractions in Santa Cruz including monuments, museums, art galleries, opera houses and parks. Garcia Sanabria Park has a permanent exhibition of the most renowned world sculptures. Also up in Puerto de la Cruz there is the famous Loro Parque, which not only specializes in parrots but has a varied selection of animals including a special penguin house.
Los Cristianos
This is the second largest holiday resort in the south of Tenerife with a distinct difference between that of its neighbour Playa de Las Americas. Los Cristianos existed as a small fishing village that developed into a popular tourist destination which interests both residents and tourists alike with a more canarian feel.
Callao Salvaje
Situated a few miles west of Las Americas and Los Cristianos, Callao Salvaje is a busy coastal resort for both residents and tourists alike. There is a small basic beach, although there are plans afoot to upgrade it. There are quite a few bars and restaurants along the seafront and a couple of supermarkets. It is very handy for the main resorts of Playa de Las Americas, but is a much more peaceful and tranquil area. It is therefore great for those who want to be near the 'action' but not stuck in the middle of it all the time.
Golf Del Sur
This has a highly acclaimed 27-hole golf course, around which snakes a 3km ring road, with several holiday resorts and residential areas scattered throughout. The San Blas commercial centre is where you will find Golf Del Sur's 'nightlife' and San Blas has a few souvenir-type shops, a couple of supermarkets and a selection of mainly English and Spanish bars and restaurants. There is a local bus service linking Golf Del Sur to Santa Cruz, Las Americas and other towns in the south of the island. This is a very good area for investment as there are many new developments being built and it is very popular with tourists.
Playa de Las Americas
This is the largest tourist resort in the south of Tenerife and has several beaches. They are purpose built with large breakwaters for safety. There is a water park with a dolphinarium, multiple shops and a vast amount of bars and restaurants catering for every need. The area really comes alive at night with multitudes of night clubs, bars, discos, floor shows, cabarets and a casino.
